THE SYLVIA HOTEL, Vancouver – Your ideal downtown stay

My stay at the hotel was delightful! The room was surprisingly spacious, reminiscent of a clean Canadian University dorm, and offered a view of English Bay. It did have a bit of a dated feel, more like a 1970s hotel than a classic 1911 apartment complex it was originally. The service was top-notch, with helpful tips on nearby amenities, and the staff went above and beyond, even addressing an uncommon issue graciously. The location couldn't have been better, right on the beach in English Bay with easy access to Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver's attractions. The dining experience was a mix of excellence and disappointment, with delicious dishes at the Sylvia dining room but some items falling short. Overall, a great stay with a few minor hiccups.

Overall, a stay at this hotel is decent with some highlights and a few drawbacks.

As soon as I entered the very small room, I was greeted with complimentary coffee, which was a nice touch. The room also had a small sitting area and free, reliable WiFi for our convenience. However, the ceiling tiles seemed a bit loose and did a strange wavy movement when the window was open.

The hotel had a great big walk-in wardrobe in the small room, needing some work overall. The service was most courteous and helpful, making the stay enjoyable. The location was excellent with superb views next to Stanley Park. The dining experience was scrumptious, especially the Beach Benny with smoked salmon. The facilities provided were satisfactory.

The hotel feels like a 60's style boarding house that is in need of a makeover. The rooms are tired, but the queen-sized bed is very comfortable, and amenities like a coffee maker, wireless internet, and a large flat-screen TV are provided. The location is perfect, right next to the beach, but can get noisy till about 3 am, impacting sleep quality. The dining options are brilliant, especially the fresh fruit platter at breakfast. The service is pleasant, although there are privacy concerns with the loud announcing of room numbers. Overall, a mixed experience with some highlights and drawbacks.
